Suspicious entries in the database

Is there any kind of evidence that either Burning Rangers or Cyberia exist?

I've seen them both on an old games list from TecToy, but I suspect they had just mistakenly included a couple of Saturn games on the list, since I've never seen or heard anything else about a MegaDrive version.

I'd suggest removing them from the database unless there's any reason to keep them there. Anyone else have any thoughts?

Re: Suspicious entries in the database

Also, here's a couple of Brazilian titles in the DB that don't quite match the name on the box covers...

(Title in DB) = ("Proper" title)
Asterix = Asterix and the Great Rescue
Barney the Dinosaur = Barney's Hide & Seek Game
Mystic Defender = Mystic Defense
Tiny Toon Adventures = Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster's Hidden Treasure
Woody Woodpecker: Férias Frustradas de Pica-Pau = Férias Frustradas do Pica Pau
World of Illusion Starring Disney's Mickey Mouse & Donald Duck = World of Illusion Estrelando Mickey Mouse & Donald Duck

Yeah, that one definitely exists.
If I'm thinking of the right one, it's a utility cart that used the Mega Modem to look up Japanese baseball scores. I'll check my records and see if I can dig up anything else on it...

Re: Suspicious entries in the database

OK, the full title is "Nikkan Sports Pro Yakyuu VAN" (G-4522).
There's a couple of screenshots at Genesis Collective, but I can't find a pic of the box at the moment (I know I have seen one before though :?)
It's one of the rarest Japanese carts, but a lot of lists don't include it because it's not technically a game.

edit: Found a pic: Adol has it (surprise, suprise! wink )
You can see it here: http://fantasyzoneparis.free.fr/images/ … 20Adol.jpg

There's a few more Japanese unility carts that aren't in the DB yet either - stuff like Nagoya, Mega Anser & Go Net. I'll try to find some pics & details and will post them...

that's why i put it on the database!

concerning the suspicious brazilian entries, i'm pretty sure that you're right but the list given by tectoy was like that, so with no others clues i'd rather to put them like that!

Thanks a lot for precising our base

Re: Suspicious entries in the database

A few suspicious Genesis entries:

Addams Family Values
RevQuixo pointed this one out in the DP thread - box-art exists (as can be seen wink ) but I'm pretty sure this was never actually released.

Barbie's Vacation Adventure
Same story here: box-art (and a ROM) exist, but there's no evidence it was actually released. It's listed in the "Rumor Mill" at DP: http://www.digitpress.com/DP/cmf/game.cmf?gameid=9582

Battle Frenzy
Released under this title in Germany (due to censorship laws preventing the original title 'Bloodshot') but I've never heard of a US version.

BodyCount
It was playable in the US on the Sega Channel, and I've heard of an NTSC prototype, but again it seems it wasn't actually released.
I created a thread about this one at DP after seeing the box-art on VGRebirth: http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=56585

Only up to 'C' so far, but I'll check the rest when I get a chance... smile

Re: Suspicious entries in the database

Some more dubious Genesis entries - box-art and/or ROMs exist for a few of them, but these may be from pre-release mock-ups or proto/preview carts.
Anyone have any proof that any of these were actually released? If not, I would suggest removing them for now, or at least adding a comment to them.

Fido Dido
Listed as a prototype at Digital Press: http://www.digitpress.com/DP/cmf/game.cmf?gameid=6197

Mr. Nutz
No US version listed at DP, VGRebirth or Genesis Collective.

Itchy & Scratchy Show, The
Listed as a prototype at DP: http://www.digitpress.com/DP/cmf/game.cmf?gameid=9580

Pac-In-Time
No Genesis version listed at DP, VGRebirth or Genesis Collective.

Power Instinct
The Japanese ROM includes an English title-screen, but again, no proof od an actual Genesis release can be found anywhere.

Smurfs, The
Box-art exists but, again, that's all you'll find. None of Infogrames other games were released in the US either.

Speedway Pro Challenge
Same story here. Box-art exists, but where's the game itself? Genesis Collective doesn't even have a screenshot.

Stone Protectors
Never even heard of this one before, and can't find a trace of it anywhere else (a SNES version was released).

Street Racer
Again, never seen anything to suggest a Genesis release, other than the box-art.

Twin Hawk
No known Genesis version.

Wrath of the Gods
Once again, there's no evidence to suggest this was ever released.

Also, was EA Hockey ever released under that name in the US? As far as I know, they just had NHL Hockey.

Finally, 3 US releases not in the database:
Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle & Friends, The
VGRebirth entry including cover pics
Closed eBay auction

Liberty or Death
Genesis Collective entry with cart scan
On eBay

Sesame Street Counting Cafe
Genesis Collective entry

Re: Suspicious entries in the database

Re: Suspicious entries in the database

That makes sense - they probably deserve a mention somewhere, just not as part of the main list. A "Rumoured/Unreleased" section could also include games that were advertised or reviewed in magazines but never released.
